Reliable Motion Platforms You Can Count On

Reliable Motion Platforms

At IPS, our mission is often quiet but powerful: we build motion platforms that countless systems rely on – but you rarely see our name.

In a recent project with Motion AI (Danvers, MA) we proved exactly why being the invisible foundation matters. They partnered with us to deliver a 7-axis scanning machine built for ergonomics, repeatability and high throughput.

Project Overview

The system is a a 7-single-axis machine, each axis driven independently, served by part-detection sensors in each bay.

  • The purpose – remove repetitive human-arm movement, alleviating ergonomic risk while boosting productivity.
  • Operator interface – An HMI + stack light gives an immediate, at-a-glance status.
  • Architecture – Each actuator runs individually (thanks to the part sensors) so multiple runs can proceed without interference.
  • Control – Motion AI provided the full motion and control platform; the customer interacts via SSH socket commands for simplicity and direct integration.

The IPS – Motion AI Collaboration

What stands out in this project is the strength of collaboration:

  • Motion AI brought deep expertise in motion control, electro-mechanical assemblies and turnkey automation solutions. Their focus includes robotics, machine vision, industrial networking and framing. Learn more about that here (The Story of Motion Automation Intelligence – Motion Automation Intelligence)
  • IPS provided the robust structural motion backbone: modular aluminum profiles, linear actuators, and machine framing. Our history includes the acquisition by the WEISS group and rebranding as IPS – Industrial Profile Systems. Learn more about that here (Bold New Brand: Introducing IPS Industrial Profile Systems)
  • Together, we enabled a system where the automation intelligence (Motion AI) sits atop a dependable, engineered motion infrastructure (IPS). The result is seamless, precise, and industrial-grade.

Why It Matters

For the end user (the OEM or system integrator):

  • Fewer ergonomic strain points.
  • Higher throughput (thanks to parallel operations without interference).
Simplified control: SSH socket commands mean easier integration in the customer’s existing environment.

For the mechanical backbone:

  • The actuators mount cleanly, travel at designed rates, and deliver repeatability and stiffness expected in industrial automation.
  • The system is scalable, can bed into different bay layouts, and can be serviced easily thanks to modular design.

For IPS’s positioning:

  • We remain foundational – our brand may not always be the most visible, but our engineering is what makes advanced automation possible.
  • By partnering with a strong motion/control integrator like Motion AI, we amplify our role in high-performance systems without seeking the spotlight ourselves.

Conclusion

In modern automation, the smartest system is only as good as its foundation and that’s where IPS excels. While Motion AI supplies the control intelligence and systems integration, IPS supplies the structural motion platform that silently makes it all work.

Together, we created a scanning machine that is ergonomic, efficient, scalable and ready for service. We applaud Motion AI for their deep knowledge, system architecture expertise and strong execution.

At IPS, we’re proud to be the unseen backbone in this high-precision solution and look forward to future collaborations built on the same principle – quiet foundation, visible performance.
